A few weeks ago, I watched Errol Morris’s American Dharma, one of the most terrifying movies I’ve ever seen. This documentary offers a portrait of political strategist Steve Bannon. As a viewer watches the film, they begin to see some of the key influences and guiding principles that contributed to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential victory. One of these recurring influences is Henry King’s 1949 film, 12 o’Clock High, starring Gregory Peck. I’m intrigued by the idea of watching these films as a double bill and engaging in a discussion about whether Steve Bannon and Henry King’s works serve as reflections of the American psyche or are merely pieces of propaganda. Let’s discuss it on June 6.
